Leader met with delegation of Vietnam Global Environment Fund

BTO –Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Nam lately worked with a delegation from Vietnam Global Environment Fund (Vietnam GEF) led by Mrs Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen-national coordinator of Small Grants Programme GEF/SGP.

GEF was established to give financial and technical supports to the communities and social organizations in order to meet common targets “Ensuring global environment via community-based initiatives and actions”. As of mid-2016, GEF/SGP has funded totally 150 projects in 110 communes of 42 provinces in Vietnam. The programme was implemented in Vietnam for the first time in 1999. In Binh Thuan, GEF/SGP has financed two projects: “Building model of joint-managing Anadara subrenata to contribute to managing and effectively using marine resources, protecting coastal eco-system in Thuan Quy commune, Ham Thuan Nam district” with the total fund of over VND 1 billion within 3 months (January, 2015 to March, 2015). “Protecting sea turtle in support of eco tourism development with the participation of the community in Hon Cau Marine Protected Area” with a total cost of VND 1.08 billion and a duration of 2 year (2016-2017). The implementation of these projects have improved the awareness and responsibility of local fishermen for preserving marine resources and environment.  The ongoing project has helped the restoration of marine resources and brought a lot of benefits to the locals.
