Fundraising and scholarship-granting ceremony for needy students opened

BTO – The fundraising and scholarship-granting ceremony for the 2016 campaign “Tiep buoc cho em den truong” (Fostering students on their studying paths) solemnly took place on August 26th night at the provincial Convention Center with the attendance of the provincial party leader Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of the provincial People’s committee Nguyen Ngoc Hai, many heads of the departments/agencies and bodies, contributors and students inside the province.

The Fund for the campaign “Tiep buoc cho em den truong” (fostering students on their studying paths), which experienced its 6 year-existence in the province, has received much care and sponsorships from local and domestic donors. In 2015 alone, the campaign has mobilized over VND 30 billion (both in cash and in kind). The fund has given away over VND 25 billion for the study encouragement activities in the province, such as: granting 15,000 scholarships, assisting 39,000 needy students and teachers plus and rewarding 79,000 outstanding students, repairing schools/classes.

This year, the campaign has appealed 223 organizations and individuals locally and domestically to join in the fundraising with over VND 2.4 billion. Of whom, Binh Thuan Lottery JSC donated VND 600 million, followed by the two units with a backing of VND 150 million each, including Bao Viet Life Insurance company and Viettel Group in Binh Thuan. The provincial Command of Border Guard also offered VND 108 million and Vinh Tan technology Limited company gave VND 100 million and so forth.

The total backing will be used for scholarship-granting and supporting studious students whose circumstances are underprivileged in the academic year of 2016-2017 and the following school years.

Addressing the ceremony, Party leader Nguyen Manh Hung acknowledged the enormous efforts of the province’s Party, people and the community of entrepreneurs in the cause of tackling difficulties and boosting the local socioeconomic development. There are more and more philanthropists, sponsors, donators inside and outside the province made great contribution to the Fund which fosters thousands of students on their studying paths, said Mr. Hung.

Nevertheless, he also figured out more than 2,000 poor and near-poor households, accounting for 9.9 percent of the total population of the province; therefore, the number of drop-outs coming from those families are facing many adversities, causing them stop their studying paths to earn a living. For that reason, Secretary of the provincial Party committee urged the executive committees of party hierarchies at all levels, the agencies, bodies, committees, unions to take full responsibilities for joining the campaign. It is better to call upon charity organizations, businesses, benefactors locally, domestically and internationally to continue supporting for the province’s studying encouragement Fund.

At the ceremony, the steering committee of the Campaign “Tiep buoc cho em den truong” granted firsthand 51 scholarships to students in Phan Thiet city, the remaining needy students shall be handed over at the opening ceremony of new school year 2016-2017. Additionally, the benefactors, who donated from VND 50 million and above, were awarded certificates of merit from the Chairman of the provincial People’s committee at the spot.
