Over 27,500 teenagers vaccinated against measles and rubella as a favor

BTO –The free vaccination program against measles-rubella for youngsters, aged 16 to 17, has been recently completed on schedule with absolutely safety, according to the provincial Center of Preventive Medicine. As reported, 27,500 adolescents plus living in all 10 districts, town and city have received free vaccination, gaining 93.63 percent of the set plan.

Since May 2016, the province has reportedly conducted the vaccination campaign against measles-rubella as a favor for people, aged between 16 to 17, or students of grade 11 and grade 12 in high schools, vocational training schools, continuing education centers and those who were born from Jan 1st 1998 to December 31st 1999, are living in areas with high risk of epidemic. The campaign was divided into two phrases: the 1st phrase took place at high schools, vocational schools and districts’ medical stations while the 2nd phrase only gave vaccinations for those who missed the first phrase vaccination. The fixed vaccination spots were positioned in medical stations of communes, townlets and districts while the mobile spots were located in high schools.

With relation to high-risk, mountainous, remote and inaccessible areas, the campaign has actively observed roving vaccination spots at hamlets, wards for the most travel convenience of the people, limiting the missed-out persons to the minimum. At all vaccination spots, there are always health staffs available to timely handle with cases of post-vaccine reaction.

Earlier, the province had carried out the vaccination campaign against measles-rubella simultaneously with 2 years (2014-2015) for children, aged 1 to14. As a result, more than 293,000 children were vaccinated, accounting for 98 percent of the whole children in ages). The success of two campaigns would help Binh Thuan soon push back the measles, which may trigger in 2017.
