Deputy PM orders drastic measures to contain dengue in Central Highlands

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked the Ministry of Health, the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands and local authorities to take more drastic measures in order to contain dengue fever, which is currently raging in the region.

Deputy PM Dam made the request on August 7 while chairing a conference held by the Ministry of Health in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province to enhance the prevention and control of dengue fever.

Expressing his concern that the outbreak of the disease has imposed serious impacts on people’s health, the Government official urged local administrations to step up their communication campaigns in residential areas in order to raise public awareness of dengue fever and inform them on how to protect themselves from the epidemic.

He also stressed the need to spray anti-mosquito chemicals at places with high risks of the disease and increase inspections in the area in order to detect cases of dengue fever and quickly bring the situation under control.

The Ministry of Health was requested to be well-prepared and stay ready to provide support for localities to limit the outbreak, while health departments must work out measure to prevent overloading at hospitals due to dengue fever.

According to a report by the Ministry of Health, since the outset of this year, more than 7,400 dengue fever cases have been reported in Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Kon Tum provinces, accounting for 15.1% of total cases detected nationwide.

Dak Lak and Gia Lai are among the top 10 cities and provinces across the country to record the highest number of cases of dengue fever with 1,865 and 3,081 cases reported, respectively.
