8th provincial sports festival kicked off

BTO – The opening ceremony of the 8th provincial Sports Festival 2018 of Binh Thuan province was held in yesterday morning (October 14) under the theme “Binh Thuan’s Sports on the way of integration and development”.

The festival was attended by Ms Le Thi Hoang Yen- deputy General Director of Vietnam Sports Administration, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung-Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hai-Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa-vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

This year’s festival converges nearly 700 athletes of 24 sports delegations from districts/city/town, many sectors and units in the province, competing in 297 medal events. At the same time, over  3,000 people also took  part in sports performances at the opening ceremony.

Since the 7th event held in 2014, sports and physical training movement in Binh Thuan has strongly developed with a high number of people and families playing sports regularly, contributing to improving people’s health and spiritual life. Especially, many forms of sports entertaiment have been developed in line with the project of building Binh Thuan as a national tourism and sea sports centre to serve the increasing demand of domestic and international visitors.

Binh Thuan is now one of the localities with comprehensive sports movement, particularly high performance sports. Local athletes have achieved many medals at domestic and international sports tounaments. Binh Thuan-born Nguyen Thi Le Kim has been “the golden girl” of Vietnamese taekwondo team. Kim was awarded the third class Labour Order by the State President.

The 2018 provincial Sports Festival, held every 4 years, takes place from October 14-19, 2018 at the provincial Stadium with 15 sports events. The best athletes in this sports festival will be trained and added to the provincial sports delegation at the 8th National Sports Festival held in Hanoi in December.
