During the meeting, Deputy Permanent Chairman Phan Van Dang expressed his pleasure that Ms. Annie Dubé - Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City and her delegation had come to visit and exchange in the province. This visit will further enhance the friendly cooperation between Canada and Vietnam in general, and specifically between the Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Thuan province.
Providing an overview of the local economic and social situation to Ms. Annie Dubé and her delegation, Deputy Permanent Chairman Phan Van Dang mentioned that in 2023, the province’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) increased by 8.1%, ranking 14th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. The export turnover grew by 7.33%, with exports to the Canadian market totaling over 7,192 USD.
In the working session, Deputy Permanent Chairman Phan Van Dang emphasized that Binh Thuan always considers Canada as an important partner and is actively attracting Canadian investment to the locality. However, the number of Canadian businesses, investors, and tourists coming to Binh Thuan is still modest. The province currently has 120 active FDI projects with a total registered capital of over 7.546 billion USD, mainly focusing on tourism - services and industrial construction. Among them, there is one FDI project with funding from Canada with a total investment capital of 100,000 USD in the tourism sector. Regarding the mining sector, there is a cooperation between Hung Thinh Co., Ltd. in the province and Saskatchewan, Canada in the exploration and processing of minerals and rare earth minerals.
The Deputy Permanent Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee hopes that Ms. Annie Dubé will serve as a bridge to promote cultural exchange, introduce regional products, and connect destinations between Binh Thuan province and Canada. He also looks forward to Canadian businesses and investors with experience to explore and collaborate on the various sectors and projects that Binh Thuan province is inviting investment in, particularly in promoting sustainable development, green growth activities, climate change mitigation, environmental protection, educational cooperation, and sustainable development between the two countries in general, and between Canadian agencies, localities, and Binh Thuan province in particular.

Expressing gratitude for such warm reception from the provincial leaders of Binh Thuan, Ms. Annie Dubé - Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City expressed excitement about the increasingly positive development of the relationship between Canada and Vietnam. Vietnam is Canada’s top trading partner in ASEAN, and both countries have strengthened cooperation in various fields, establishing comprehensive partnerships and shared membership in organizations such as APEC.
Ms. Annie Dubé affirmed that this visit aims to further enhance cooperation between Canada and Binh Thuan, especially in sectors where Binh Thuan province has significant development potential. Following this visit, Canada will actively collaborate with departments and agencies of Binh Thuan province to promote commercial activities and create positive changes in the cooperative relationship between the two sides.
