Project on improving the quality of Vietnamese tropical fruit handed over Binh Thuan

On April 11 morning, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, in collaboration with the Farmers' Association of Binh Thuan province, observed a meeting with a delegation of experts from the Dutch Prins Land, Water and Agriculture Consulting Company.

The event, took place in Phan Thiet city, surveyed the areas conducting the project of “Improving the Vietnamese fruits’ quality”. Thereby, it investigated and picked up the unified models and methods with the project framework.

The project to improve the quality of Vietnamese fruit is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Central of Vietnam Farmers' Association) and provided by the Medical Committee Netherlands-Vietnam (MCNV). The project is projected to implement in 36 months (from December 2021 to November 30, 2024) in 4 provinces, including Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Binh Thuan and Long An. Its budget is VND 4.1 billion, of which, the Central Vietnam Farmers' Union managed over 2 billion VND and the over 2 billion VND budget is managed by MCNV, equivalent to 80,105 Euro. The farmer households participating in the project are carefully selected under the Vietnam Farmers Union (VNFU) evaluation, the Medical Committee Netherlands-Vietnam (MCNV).

The project’s objective is to improve the position of farmers producing dragon fruit, mango and pomelo in some provinces and cities of Vietnam, based on the application of innovative and sustainable methods and technologies. It targets at high-end domestic and international markets. As a result of the project, at least 600 fruit farmers have improved their knowledge and advanced techniques in irrigation management, pesticides and fertilizers, and soil quality management. At least 4 demonstration models are built in the project.

Earlier in the afternoon of April 10, the delegation visited and surveyed some dragon fruit growing households in the districts of Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Thuan Bac. Thereby, they made surveys on some issues related to dragon fruit production such as water sources, fertilizers, irrigation farming techniques, export markets. The delegation also introduced about the project's goals and direction of support, as well as the requirements that farmers need to fulfill if selected to participate in the demonstration model...
