Mui Ne National Tourist Area
In the early spring of 2023, after 3 years of the Covid-19 pandemic, the economic development of many localities and countries and territories, in general, was inhibited. I went to Mui Ne Ward (Phan Thiet City), which is located in the center of the famous Mui Ne National Tourist Area of Binh Thuan to study environmental sanitation, security, and order amid; while the relevant authorities strictly handle the cheating on seafood weight at the fishing village is reputed on social networks.
This place has a total natural area of 3,436.6 ha, bordering many communes and wards, including Ham Tien ward. Both wards are main tourist destinations, in terms of administrative boundaries are 2, but in terms of tourism, they are one and have the common name Mui Ne Tourist Area. Originated from the total solar eclipse event in the winter of 1995, many tourist facilities sprang up like weeds over a rainy night in Ham Tien and then Mui Ne ward, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists; the brand " The resort capital Ham Tien - Mui Ne" was created then.
Fishermen prepare gear for the
ocean trip.
In this article, I write about Mui Ne ward, where the population is large and the destinations are diverse with Flying Sand Dunes, Hon Rom, and interesting fishing villages on winding and far-off coastal routes. Mr. Tran Quang Tho - Head of Quarter 1, Mui Ne Ward, once immersed in the sun and wind far offshore fishing for sea products said: Mui Ne landscape is beautiful! Especially the Fishing Village, where standing on the high embankment, you can see the vast ocean, watch the dawn and twilight, boats float on the sparkling waves.
Not only is the beauty of the landscape, but there is also the rustic and sincere beauty of the people here. The flow of local moving in any street or destination, including Mui Ne market. The people of Mui Ne are mostly fishermen - friends of the ocean. Same as fishermen in other places, they cling to the sea until they can't have enough strength, then transmit on to their future generations, and then retire to be the supporters. The ocean in recent years is not as abundant as before due to overexploitation. “Most of the people here fish near the shore, the marine now is known as a low-income job. Sometimes our children catch fish just enough for paying boats' gasoline, sometimes they can't catch anything, in general, it is precarious…”, a tan skin, friendly gesture fisherman - Mr. Tran Van Ba, 59 years old said.
The environment and security here have changed much more than in previous years. In the past, the roundabout area near the People's Committee of Mui Ne ward was not beautiful, but now it becomes a bright landscape. Attracting guests to rent sand-boards and theft situation in Sand Dunes have decreased. Head of Mui Ne Ward Police - Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Son said that over the past time, the ward police had closely followed the area, applied professional measures, and continuously attacked and suppressed criminals. Up to now, social evils have significantly reduced, and political security has been ensured and stabilized. Some problems such as gambling and cockfighting still occur, especially scam seafood in Fishing Village.
“The fishing village is a famous destination, domestic and foreign tourists often come here to buy seafood, admire the scenery, make videos, and take pictures for social media. But some people trading seafood here are subjective and can not be aware of it, so unfortunate things happen sometimes" Mr. Tran Quang Tho shared. Then expand his story: In the past, there is no shops and restaurants in this wild fishing village, the fishermen in the ward were honest and naive, they just went to sea and caught fish; then came and sold to whoever bought their products at the beach or Mui Ne market. Later, tourists visited a lot, so seafood shops are opened and took up all the spaces to store gear, mend nets, etc. for the sea trip causing greed.
But I think that these existences must change to contribute to the construction of the fishing village in particular, and the whole Mui Ne ward, in general, to be more civilized. By doing so, our people will get benefit from getting stable jobs through tourism, otherwise, they will lose customers, which means unemployment, clinging poverty, viciousness in deprivation, and backwardness. Since Mui Ne ward is a famous destination on the world tourist map and social media, it is no longer the same as the old days." Mr. Tho emphasized.

A corner of Mui Ne
Green, clean, beautiful, civilized
Mr. Tho's voice resonated in me until I met Mr. Hung, a 50-year-old man - one of the seafood traders in the Fishing Village. He once weighed in for his customers but has now given up on that work. “It's unethical to trade like that… once a cheater always a cheater, so I can't do it anymore. But in a trading environment where most people don't have the same thought as mine, it is so difficult to do business...", Mr. Hung added, I might change jobs if the functional sector bans seafood trading in the fishing village.
This prohibition not only Mr. Hung but also many other people have found it to be true because the state of fraud has reached a level of concern that affects not only the honor of the people of Mui Ne, the destination of the ward but also the whole tourism in Binh Thuan province. “We have petitioned the City People's Committee not to allow people to trade in seafood here. If there is still this kind of trading, there is still a fraud that day," said Mr. Pham Quoc Bao - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Mui Ne Ward.
In the midst of the warm spring sun, the clear blue sea is as calm as a mirror, I see the shadow of Mui Ne ward leaning with the desire to become a paradise worth living with no social crimes, a green and clean environment in the future. That might come true when many projects are implemented in a short time. Taking the first step, the ward has had an idea of "covering" the fishing village in a "new color" after the City People's Committee allowed the removal of all spontaneous shops that lost their beauty and embellished many other inappropriate points; This is must be finished soon because in 2023 Binh Thuan will host the National Tourism Year which is worthy of the name Mui Ne National Tourist Area.
Secretary of Mui Ne Ward Do Quoc Bao shared that over the years, local authorities have made great efforts to ensure security and create a landscape environment in the ward. But the most important thing is the awareness of each person in the area. Everyone is clearly aware of their obligations and responsibilities in contributing to a "green - clean - beautiful, civilized" Mui Ne.
