BTO - Building on their unique potential and advantages, the provinces of Binh Thuan and Dong Nai are aiming to establish links and cooperation to promote sustainable tourism development in the near future.

Over nearly 30 years of growth and development, Binh Thuan has steadily secured its position on Vietnam’s tourism map, becoming a compelling destination for both domestic and international travelers. In fact, the province has left a lasting impression on visitors with its poetic beaches, stunning natural scenery, fresh environment, and diverse marine ecosystems.

Throughout its development journey, Binh Thuan has established numerous beachfront resorts of high standards, with ever-improving quality to meet the accommodation needs of all types of visitors. In addition to its nearly 200 km of coastline and the “pearl island” of Phu Quy, this southern central coastal region also offers rich tourism assets, including sand dunes, forests, mountains, historical and cultural relics, as well as a variety of distinctive traditional festivals.

Meanwhile, Dong Nai, located in the southeastern region, is a rapidly developing industrial province with 35 planned industrial parks, 31 of which are already in operation. It is also recognized as the fruit capital, renowned for products such as rambutans and durians (Long Khanh), Tan Trieu pomelos (Vinh Cuu), cocoa (Dinh Quan), and mangoes (Xuan Loc). The province also holds significant potential for tourism development, thanks to its diverse ecosystem of forests, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, and mountains. Notable attractions include the Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO in 2011, and Cat Tien National Park, designated as a special national site. Additionally, the Dong Nai River, one of the longest and most beautiful rivers in the southern region, and Tri An Lake, one of the country’s largest artificial lakes, have been planned as part of a national tourism area.

Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Loan, Director of the Dong Nai Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, highlighted that Dong Nai serves as a major tourist market for numerous cities and provinces across Vietnam, including Binh Thuan. Within the province, several large-scale tourism projects are underway, such as an eco-resort complex near Chua Chan Mountain (spanning approximately 1,600 hectares), the Thac Mai - Bau Nuoc Soi project, and the Dong Nai River tourism route. Furthermore, with the expansion of expressway networks and the anticipated launch of Long Thanh International Airport in the coming years, Dong Nai is poised for substantial socio-economic and tourism growth.

Accelerating Implementation

At the recently concluded Binh Thuan Tourism Promotion Conference in Dong Nai, held in late November 2024, leaders of the Departments of Culture, Sports, and Tourism from both localities highly valued the opportunities for collaboration in developing the “smokeless industry.” Binh Thuan and Dong Nai share geographical proximity, are part of the southeastern economic hub, and benefit from increasingly modern and convenient transportation infrastructure. In their cooperation, the differences in their tourism strengths and product types—one excelling in marine and island tourism, the other in eco-tourism and rural tourism—serve as complementary “highlights,” allowing for the creation of diverse and attractive tour routes and products. Similar to Binh Thuan, Dong Nai’s Provincial Development Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2050, identifies tourism as one of the pillars of its economy, focusing on high-quality tourism development.

On this occasion, related units and businesses had the opportunity to meet and discuss prospects for collaboration, aiming to promote the potential tourism industry of both provinces. These discussions facilitated the development of joint tour routes and partnership programs to be implemented soon, along with preferential policies offering discounts for businesses and tourists from Dong Nai and Binh Thuan. From Dong Nai’s perspective, following the Dong Nai Tourism Promotion Conference held in Binh Thuan (in October 2024 in Phan Thiet City), provincial tourism authorities promptly directed their departments and units to coordinate with Binh Thuan in implementing several agreed-upon initiatives. Through the Binh Thuan Tourism Promotion Conference in Dong Nai, the focus was placed on launching specific cooperation programs, aiming to boost business performance and contribute positively to the tourism development of both provinces.

To ensure sustainable development, Mr. Bui The Nhan, Director of the Binh Thuan Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, emphasized the need for frequent promotional programs and supplementary connections between the two provinces in the near future. These efforts will help unlock potential and leverage advantages while diversifying tourism products for visitors. They also include the early development of promotional materials and joint marketing programs for linked tours and participation in shared booths at tourism events and fairs.

These are also advantages and opportunities for Binh Thuan and Dong Nai, in particular, and southeastern provinces, in general, to strengthen regional collaboration and partnerships to drive mutual tourism development.
