Cham Community celebrates Kate festival safe and fun

BTO – To ensure the Covid-19 prevention and control, especially amid complex developments of the pandemic in the country in general and in Binh Thuan province in particular, this year's celebration is not held at Po Sah Inu tower as usual. Accordingly, the Cham ethnic people and visitors will not flock to the tower to worship and offer rituals like in previous years.

The Tower-worshipping ceremony is considered an indispensable ritual of the yearly Kate festival. Therefore, the management board of Po Sha Inu tower in coordination with dignitaries in Ham Thuan Bac district on October 5th to perform the most important ritual in a very simple, solemn, and safe manner following the Covid-19 preventive measures.

The Cham Brahman ethnic people in the south-central province of Binh Thuan are celebrating their yearly Kate Festival from October 4-6.

According to senior monk Thong Minh Toan (Ham Thuan Bac district), instead of bringing the offerings to the tower, as usual, the Cham people celebrate the traditional Kate festival at their houses. They are also encouraged not to gather many people, not to go out to extend greetings for the sake of their health.
