Undeniably, fresh dragon fruit is grown in Binh Thuan mainly depends on Chinese
markets over the past time in the form of cross-border trade exports. According
to figures released from the Departments of Industry and Trade of Lang Son, Lao
Cai, Ha Giang, Quang Ninh, a majority of Vietnam’s dragon fruit are exported to
China, the world’s biggest population country.
In the 2016-2020 period alone, there are over 6 million tons of Vietnam’s dragon
fruit have been brought to the northern border gates. Of the sum, Binh Thuan’s
dragon fruit accounts for the majority.
However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, China has strengthened
restrictions and limitations on fruit exports, leaving many difficulties for the
local advantageous agricultural farms. In the face of the new situation, Binh
Thuan has actively boosted promotion to search and expand its consumer markets,
reducing the dependence on a sole market. Although the epidemic is complicatedly
ongoing, the province’s authorities and businesses have made all efforts to
connect dragon fruit consumption with traders via online conferences and forums.
Typically, a teleconference on dragon fruit exports between Vietnamese exporters
and their partners with Indian and Pakistan was co-hosted by the Vietnam Trade
Promotion Agency (Vietrade) and the Vietnamese embassies in both India and
Pakistan. On August 5th on Zoom and Facebook platforms. According to the
Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Thuan Province, the
province currently has 33,750 hectares of dragon fruit, of which 11,000 hectares
meet the VietGAP standards, and 517 hectares meet the GlobalGAP ones. In 2020,
the output of dragon fruits harvested here reached nearly 700,000 tons.
According to the Vietnam Trade Promotion Department, the conference is expected
to contribute to connecting and bringing fresh dragon fruit from Vietnam in
general and from Binh Thuan in particular to the two countries’ markets.
Next, another teleconference to promote Vietnamese dragon fruit to potential
export markets via Zooms, Tencent, and Facebook has also been successfully held
in September 2021. Besides the presence of functional departments, 12 units of
Binh Thuan dragon fruit Association and enterprises, cooperatives also
participated in the event. Thanks to the support of Trade Promotion Departments,
some initial connections have been created between Binh Thuan’s enterprises and
foreign partners, namely Gajanan Ashirwad Industries, Auroch Agro Products Pvt
Ltd, Anycaan Business Trade & Solutions Pvt Ltd (India), or some markets in
Australia, Japan, China and European markets, etc.
Regarding this event, leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade shared
that: the conference ended successfully and offered opportunities to both
parties in terms of contract connection, price exchanges, product
specifications, etc.
