Delegation of the Ministry of National Defense inspects Project of Phan Thiet Military Airport

 The delegation inspected the actual construction of the military airport construction investment project in Phan Thiet City. After that, they worked with the provincial People's Committee on the implementation progress, proposing plans and measures to remove difficulties and obstacles, speeding up the project implementation.

Attending the working session, there were Mr. Duong Van An – Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Delegation of the National Assembly of Binh Thuan province; Doan Anh Dung - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Phan Van Dang - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and representatives of leaders of relevant departments, branches, and localities.

According to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Doan Anh, the construction investment project of Phan Thiet military airport has so far completed the work of compensation and site clearance on 545 hectares. The Provincial People's Committee has issued the decision to allocate land to the Ministry of Defense, especially the 1-hectare Vor station is on the procedures for land allocation.

Addressing the meeting, Secretary An highlighted the significant role of the Phan Thiet Airport project in the diplomacy of the province. He urged the relevant authorities to step up the construction progress as scheduled.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army - Deputy Minister of National Defense highly appreciated the coordination between the Air Defense Force, the functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense, and Binh Thuan province in implementing the project. Although some basic results have been achieved, the project's progress is still slow due to many problems.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong directed to speed up the implementation of the investment project to build a military airport in Phan Thiet. He urged the agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense need to closely coordinate with the locality in solving the problem of site clearance, and construction progress of items as required.

On the other hand, he suggested reviewing the capacity of contractors to sign contracts for the bidding packages approved by the Ministry. There should be sanctions for construction contractors who do not ensure the quality and construction progress to adjust accordingly. At the same time, he directed construction contractors to increase human resources and equipment, and focus financial resources to implement work items. He asked to review the necessary items to receive the 915th Regiment for stationing, training, and performing tasks at Phan Thiet airport.

With respect to Binh Thuan province, the locality needs to urgently complete the site clearance of the remaining items, remove difficulties in material supply, solve the problem of relocation of 220 kV high-voltage lines as well as complete procedures for land and environment. In parallel with the military part, Binh Thuan needs to review and soon put into operation the civil aviation of Phan Thiet Airport project synchronously with the military airport in the near future.
