Up to now, 4 resettlement areas (S11 Luong Son, C1 Binh An, C2 Phan Lam and C5 Song Binh) which belong to Phan Ri-Phan Thiet irrigation project have been invested in power system, water supply, school, cultural house. The project’s managing board has handed over the works to Bac Binh district’s People’s Committee. Therefore, a number of households received land to build houses on the site.
Regarding to project of Agricultural development for the Phan Ri-Phan Thiet irrigation region (phase 2), Chau Giang Hung Yen Co.,Ltd has implemented a number of watering models and cultivated peppermint trees on an area of 1,000 m2 in Binh An pilot area. The company is projected to sell the first batch of mint essential oil produced in Bac Binh district to Suzuki Company in January, 2018. In the following month, Chau Giang Hung Yen Company will open a training course to guide local people how to grow, care and harvest peppermint trees in order to expand cultivation area for the sake of mint oil export. The managing board of Phan Ri-Phan Thiet 2 has worked with functional units to build a model agriculture example on a 4,000 m2 land area in the pilot area of 68.5 ha in Song Binh commune with the purpose of testing some plants such as: red hot chilli, peanut, asparagus …. with satisfactory results. For the coming time, the unit will organize a seminar to seek the community consultation in order to disseminate the model towards developing these plants for commercial purpose. Mr. Naoki Kakioka highly appreciated the province’s leaders’ direction on the implementation of the two projects over the past time. He said that the Japanese agency will soon transfer the sciences and techniques to Vietnamese people in order to help them improve living standards.
On behalf of Binh Thuan’s leaders, Mr. Hai expressed his thanks for JICA’s cooperation and supports, saying that JICA-funded projects have been implemented effectively, bringing local residents enough water supply for daily use and agricultural production, contributing to enhancing their living quality. He promised that the provincial authority will make every efforts to step up the projects as well as call people use the water sources economically. He expected agency would keep on assisting the locality to boost the development of agriculture and rural areas, improve people’s livelihood, contributing to the socioeconomic development of Binh Thuan province.
