Accordingly, the south central province authorities expects to access to the expenditure of VND 175 billion (including VND 135 billion paid by the MND and a supplement of VND 40 billion) for land compensation payments. In addition, the local authorities expressed hope to ramp up the constructions of the military airfield so that it can be exploited at the same time with the civil aviation.
The Phan Thiet airport project was approved by the Ministry of airport in late 2013 with a total cost of VND 5.6 trillion, covering 543 ha in Thien Nghiep commune in the north-east of Phan Thiet city. The would-be airport will be used for both civil and military purposes. In which, the civil aviation is funded in the form of BOT (Vuild-Operate-Transfer) under the management of the provincial People Committee whereas the investment and management competence of Military airfield is assigned to the Ministry of National defense in the form of BT (Build-Transfer).
The project is definitely a crucial contribution to luring investments and boosting the local socioeconomic development, uplifting the locality to become a national center of tourism and sea sports.
On the other hand, the investment in Phan Thiet airport plays a significant role in national defense. Therefore, the provincial authorities order relevant agencies and localities to step up site clearance and compensation payments for the civil aviation.
As of now, 444 out of 543 ha (82 percent) of planning land have been cleared and be able to transfer to the investors. The Department of Transport was assigned to team up with the Rong Dong JSC to complete drawing design and cost estimate in accordance with regulations.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreed to assign the Ministry of National Defense to review and decide whether to use the funding from the reserve fund of the BT military zone for upgrading the airfield from 4C level to 4E level or not.
