Binh Thuan get benefits from climate change project

BTO – A delegation of French Development Agency (AFD) visited Binh Thuan and worked with local leaders on climate change tissues on Thursday morning (March 9th). The delegation consisted of Mr. GENEVEY – director of the AFD in Vietnam, representatives of Ministry of Finance, representatives of Ministry of Planning and Investment and representatives  of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Climate change project is reportedly carried out in 4 provinces of Phu Yen, Dak Nong, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.

In Binh Thuan province, the project covers a total area of 3181,5 square kilometers with a population of  389.497 in Tanh Linh, La Gi town and Ham Thuan Nam, according to the suggestion of the consultancy unit. Its main purpose is to fight against drought, erosion, flood and cope with climate change in the southern districts of the province. The project’s cost  is expected to reach an amount of EUR 71.500.000.

On the other hand, the AFD requested the local authorities to provide them with supplementary materials, plans on climate change adaption and other relevant documents.

Vice chairman of Binh Thuan provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Nam acknowledged the AFD’s and ministerial contributions, saying that the locality will meet appropriate and mandatory requirements of the sponsor to get the best efficiency of the project.
