All six Vietnamese students have won silver medals at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO), announced the Ministry of Education and Training on June 6. One other eleventh grader of the Vietnamese team, Nguyen Khanh from the High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi University of Science, also brought home a bronze medal. Thanks to the impressive results, Vietnam finished seventh out of 30 countries and territories participating in the event. First launched in 2007, the APIO is an online contest for students in the Asian and Western Pacific Region countries and territories, which evaluates contestants’ capacities on the design of efficient, correct algorithms. This year’s contest was hosted by Australia, drawing 164 entrants. Last year, Vietnam won one gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the event hosted by the Republic of Korea from May 7-8.
