BTO – The Project Management Unit No.6 has recently proposed the Ministry of Transport a project to build North-south high-speed motorways extended from Nha Trang to Phan Thiet under the mode of BOT (Build – Operate – Transfer). Accordingly, the project has a length of 234.8 kilometers, starting from Dien Tho commune, Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa province and ending at Ham Kiem commune, Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan province.
The route is designed in scale of 6 lanes, but only 4 lanes will be built in the first phrase with the roadbed width of 17 meters, the design speed of 100 kilometers/hour (km/h) excluding sections through tunnels (80 km/h). Besides 94 bridges covering the total length of 12 km, the route has 4 road tunnels including the largest Vung mountain tunnel with 1.7 km long. The total investment of VND 27,837 billion is divided into 2 components. The first component, worth VND 9,279 billion funded by Official Development Assistance (ODA), extends from Km 53+400 to Km 142+5000; the second component, worth VND 16,147 billion under the form of BOT), includes two sections from Km 0 to Km 53+400 and Km 142+500 to Km 235.
For the later, the investors will get their payback within 21 years with a starting charge at 1,500 dong/km and then increase 12 percent once every three years.
The project is expected to commence by the third quarter of 2017 and complete 3 years after the construction begins. Reportedly, the project’s goal is to address passengers and cargo to their real need for travel and transport, shorten the travel time from other localities to Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan province. It also helps complete the overall planning of North-South expressway from Ha Noi to Can Tho.
