Agriculture development project in Phan Ri-Phan Thiet (2nd phase) in Binh Thuan, sponsored by JICA through a non-refundable aid with a total investment cost of about USD 2 million, is planned to be implemented within 3 years (March, 2016-March, 2019). The project aims at building an irrigated agricultural model of farming crops in Phan Ri-Phan Thiet irrigation system.
Mr. Fujita Yasuo, JICA’s Chief Representative in Vietnam, expressed his expectation that the leadership of Binh Thuan would urge relevant departments and agencies to boost the implementation progress of the project as scheduled, ensuring expected quality; complete infrastructure system in connection with pilot areas of Chau Giang company and Song Binh company; take preferential policies in favour of agriculture development (such as: regrouping of lands, site clearance compensation…). He also shared his strong desire that the partnership between his country and Vietnam would be more and more developed. On behalf of Binh Thuan’s leaders, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Ngoc Hai showed his gratitude to the Japanese Government’s assistance. The irrigation project of Phan Ri-Phan Thiet has facilitated local people in daily life and agricultural production, contributing to improving their living standards. According to Mr. Hai, Binh Thuan authorities have mobilized local farmers to grow peppermint tree, hoping that Japanese businesses would invest in developing a peppermint oil factory. He also stressed that Vietnam Government is considering the policy of concentration of lands to enable enterprises and people to expand cultivation and production scales.
