Vietnam, Cambodia mark 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties

A grand ceremony was held this morning in Ha Noi to mark the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Cambodia.

Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin said the anniversary is a great historical event reflecting that the countries’ traditional solidarity, friendship and sound cooperation throughout history have brought about benefits for the two nations, especially in gaining peace, stability and prosperity.

On behalf of the Cambodian people, he expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the Party, State and people of Viet Nam for their precious support and assistance to the Cambodian people in recovering and re-constructing his country.

He especially highlighted the great sacrifice of Viet Nam's volunteer soldiers who helped free the Cambodian people from the Pol Pot genocidal regime on January 7, 1979.
