BTO –A delegation of the Belgium led by Guido Schueremans – head of Department of Asian-Latin America, Directorate General for Belgian Development Cooperation visited and worked with Binh Thuan provincial People’s Committee on April 6th afternoon.

The working session focused on the implementation progress of underway project “Integrated Water management and urban development in relation to climate change in Binh Thuan province” (project, for short) in the hope of boosting future co-operation.

At the reception, there were vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Hoa and leaders of Office of the provincial People’s Committee, Department of Investment and Planning, People’s Committee of Bac Binh district (known as the beneficiary body of the project) and Project Coordination Unit (PCU).

The project has a total investment capital of Euro 6 million, including Euro 800 thousand for Vietnam’s reciprocal capital.

There are 4 products included in the projects, namely enhancing capacity and regulation; building integrated strategy on climate change; priority pilot activities; the dynamic participation of the community and private sector.

According to the report, under the recent support of the Belgian Development Cooperation, the technical assistance committee and the guidance of the province’s leaders and functional bodies, the operation of PCU runs steadily.  Most of the project’s activities have been implemented, but some of them are in slow progress, resulting in failing disbursement as planned due to both objective and subjective reasons.

In 2016, OCU will step up the overall activities and a number of research activities, investment will be soon completed, contributing to the major target of the project gradually.

At the meeting,  Schueremans expressed his cheer for the constructive role and trust of the Binh Thuan’s authorities in the project, saying that all project members will keen on working, co-operating for better efficiency.

Speaking at the meeting, Hoa highlighted the Belgian-funded project plays essential and big meaningful roles to the province. He asked PCU to coordinate local bodies and agencies to carry out the project as set target and approved progress so that the project will bring much more practical effects in the coming time.

Besides, Hoa hopes that the Kingdom of Belgium shall keep on supporting and facilitating the province to participate in projects/programs contracted between Vietnam and Belgium.
