National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue assessed that in the first six working days of its second session, the National Assembly (NA) had basically completed the proposed programme.

He made the statement while chairing a meeting on works done in the first week of the session held in Hanoi on October 25.

The meeting agenda was arranged in a reasonable and scientific manner, making the most of time, regarding both group and online discussions, and ensuring the principles of democracy in the activities of the NA, NA Chairman Hue said.

During the remaining time of the online session, the NA will discuss the economic restructuring plan for 2021-2025, the national planning for land use for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, among others. These are all important issues for the sustainable development of the country, ensuring the social security in the coming time, the top legislator noted.

The NA Chairman emphasised that it is necessary to further promote the good works and learn from the things that have not been done well in the first six days to better organise the session.

National policy and people's livelihood issues discussed, considered and decided by the NA need to be fully, promptly, and comprehensively informed to voters and the people, he said, recommending related parliamentary agencies be more proactive in providing information to the press.

He also requested tightening the work of ensuring safety and epidemic prevention and control during the event.

Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy Le Minh Tri explained several issues raised by deputies.

Later in the morning, the legislators discussed in groups the revised draft Law on Insurance Business, which comprises eight chapters and 156 articles, and specifies seven groups of policies adopted by the Government under Resolution No.121/NQ-CP dated December 31, 2019.

Approving the comprehensive amendment of the law after 20 years of implementation, the deputies suggested that the work should remove bottlenecks and obstacles, helping the insurance market develop more equally and sustainably.

They proposed supplementing regulations on antitrust; strengthening the State management in insurance business activities; and revising the law in accordance with the trend of electronics and digitisation.

In the afternoon sitting, the lawmakers looked into the draft Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Statistics Law. Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung clarified issues mentioned by NA deputies.

The deputies basically agreed with the need to such amendments in order to institutionalise the Party and State's guidelines, policies and laws on statistics work; and create a legal basis for timely data collection and assuring of the statistics’ objectivity and correctness, among others.

Minister Dung affirmed that the Government and the drafting agency will seriously take into consideration all valid opinions of the delegates and work closely with the NA Economic Committee in reviewing and completing the draft law.
