BTO-Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People Committee Luong Van Hai on August 30 arranged a working session with representatives of Energy Capital Vietnam (ECV) over the investment plan of a LNG-to-power project in Binh Thuan province.

According to ECV’s report, the project, which has a combined investment capital of over USD 5 billion, is expected to be situated in Tan Thanh commune (Ham Thuan Nam district). The 3,200MW gas-fired power plant is scheduled to be completed in 2023 and reach the full capacity in 2025. The liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply will be directly imported from the US. The project will be implemented by the conglomerate of ECV, South Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) and KBR (a global engineering company form the US).

A LGN-fueled thermo power plant is cleanand highly effective with lower cost (for operation and maintenance) than those of a coal-fired power plant. Moreover, it has a flexible operation mechanism and frequency modulation. Due to those advantages, the plant will help minimize and reduce the impact on natural environment, landscapes, tourist destinations and social welfare system.

At the meeting, representatives of departments/branches/agencies and leaders of Ham Thuan Nam district also gave their opinions to the project’s location and land area.

In conclusion, vice Chairman Luong Van Hai highly appreciated this project. He asked the investors, basing on opinions and suggestions from departments and locality, to consider carefully the most suitable location for the project and take steps to complete investment procedures as stipulated.
