Phan Thiet University to host 10th “Engaging with Vietnam – An interdisciplinary Dialogue” Conference

BTO – Within 3 days (from December 17th – 20th), an international conference, entitled “Engaging with Vietnam – an interdisciplinary dialogue”, in its 10th times with the theme: “Beyond Dichotomies: Vietnam from multiple perspectives” was held in Phan Thiet University, Binh Thuan province. The educational event is co-held by Engaging with Vietnam, University of Hawaii at Manoa – USA, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City – University of Phan Thiet.

The conference attracted a great number of domestic and foreign renowned educational institutes to the event for exchanging experiences and searching for ideas in serve of educational application in Vietnam in general and in Binh Thuan in particular.

This 10th conference focuses in particular on dichotomies, the dichotomization of knowledge, and the discursive constructions of dichotomies in Vietnam-related knowledge production and scholarship. Dichotomies and dichotomization often come in the form of ‘Self and Other’ and/or in pairs of contrasts, such as ‘global – local’, ‘traditional – modern’, ‘Western values – Asian values’, ‘Vietnamese women – foreign women’, ‘nationalism – cosmopolitanism’, ‘developed – underdeveloped/developing’, ‘urban – rural’, ‘privileged – disadvantaged’, ‘active – passive’, ‘critical thinking – passive and rote learning’, ‘Global North – Global South’, and ‘Vietnam – ASEAN’, etc.

Presenting at the conference, representative of Phan Thiet University shared the topic relating in “Reducing Vietnam’s marine environment caused by plastic waste”. Addressing the event, rector of Phan Thiet University hailed the contribution of the researches and presentations of the attendees to the local young generations’ future. He expects the findings of the researches will bring better contributions to the province’s tourism and environment issues.
