Ceremony to grant scholarships to poor students

BTO –The provincial steering Committee of the campaign “Fostering students on their study paths” held a solemn ceremony on Friday evening (August 28) in Phan Thiet city to receive donated funds and grant scholarships to poor students.

The event was attended by Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung-Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hai- Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Duong Van An –deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Mr. Dang Hong Sy- head of the provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization cum head of the provincial Steering Committee for the campaign “Fostering students on their study paths-2020” (hereafter called the campaign), representatives of department, agencies, organizations, enterprises, and poor studious students in the province.

In the past ten-year period, (2011-2020), the campaign has received practical assistance from agencies, businesses, and other donors inside and outside Binh Thuan province, with a total fund of VND 272 billion so far. In which, a fund of VND 241 billion was spent on giving 153,000 scholarships and 621,000 gifts to poor studious students, along with other support for students and teachers in the province. In 2020, amid difficulties in the socioeconomic situation due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the campaign was launched in July and attracted 161 donors, with a fund of VND 3.35 billion.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary Nguyen Manh Hung highly appreciated the contributions of organizations, enterprises, and individuals, saying that their assistance has helped thousands of students overcome difficulties to keep on the study. Their donations have also helped local authorities and education sector implement their tasks of improving education quality and reducing the rates of drop out. Mr. Hung emphasized that the campaign’s steering committee should promote its role in raising funds to help more needy students, especially when their families’ economic conditions have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the ceremony, the organizers presented 75 scholarships to poor students from Phan Thiet city, Ham Thuan Bac district, Phan Thiet University, and Binh Thuan Community College. At the same time. Certificates of merit were also presented to enterprises with significant donations to the campaign.
