Addressing the event, Politburo member and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh praised the children for not succumbing to difficulties such as poverty or diseases, making great efforts to pursue study, thus becoming bright examples for children nationwide to follow.

The Deputy PM urged authorities at all levels and socio-political organisations to continue mobilize resources for child protection and care, and work harder to create a safe and favourable environment  for children to study and play. He particularly reminded administrations and agencies to take practical actions to help children from poor families, street children and those in other disadvantaged circumstances pursue study.

A total 56 children were honoured at the event with certificates of merit of the HCM CYU Central Committee and the Ministry of Education and Training. On the occasion, agencies, companies and individuals nationwide contributed more than 800 million VND to present scholarships and presents to disadvantaged children.

The honouring ceremony was a main activity of the festival of disadvantaged children with good academic performance held from June 14-16 in HCM City. The event gathered 278 exemplary children.-VNA
