Binh Thuan plans to gain USD 50-60 mln per year from dragon fruit’s official export turnover

BTO- A plan to expand and develop Binh Thuan dragon fruit consumption markets domestically and internationally in the period of 2021-2025 has been proposed to the provincial People’s Committee, according to Binh Thuan Department of Industry and Trade.

The plan aims to support local dragon fruit enterprises, cooperatives in expanding their production and trading activities as it is deployed. At the same time, it also fosters the improvement of productivity, product quality and finds sales partners to develop distribution channels and consumption markets for the local advantageous products.

 Besides, the plan promises to promote dragon fruit exports to traditional markets and support trade promotion for businesses so as to the fruit can penetrate the new and potential markets.

Notably, the locality have set up a target of striving for an official export turnover from USD 50 to 60 million a year and a domestic consumption rate from 22 to 25 percent a year in 2025.

As known, the volume of annual local dragon fruit harvest hits hundreds of thousands of fruits a year. Those have mainly served for exportation and 15 percent of domestic markets. In 2020, the province’s businesses have officially exported nearly 6,820 tons of fresh dragon fruit with a turnover of USD 8.1 million, a year-on-year increase of 5.34 percent, the Department of Industry and Trade.
