A farmer in Ham Tan honored as Vietnam outstanding farmer

BTO- The Vietnam Farmers’ Union held a ceremony in Hanoi on October 14 to honour 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers in 2018.

 awarded certificates of merit to outstanding farmers.

 

Mr.Nguyen Van Luong, known as Mr. Hai Luong (born in 1953) from Tan Minh commune-Ham Tan district-Binh Thuan province is among them.

In 1997, Mr. Hai Luong left his homeland Tien Giang to Tan Minh to build up a fruit garden. After 20 years of hardworking, he has turned a barren land area of 7 hectares into a multi-million fruit farm with thousands of fruit trees, such as: longan, mango, orange, mandarin, avocado, etc.

Previously, people in Tan Minh mainly grew sugar cane. But in the recent years, other fruit trees have been gradually planted with bumper crops, and Mr. Hai  Luong is one of persons taking the lead in transferring into high economic crops. His cultivation models have been disseminated by local residents.

When sharing experience in farming, Mr. Hai Luong emphasized that the most important thing for agricultural prodcution, especially planting fruit trees, is changing production practice by finding new varieties with high yeild and high-quality fruit, applying scientific and technological advances pests instead of using pesticides to prevent pests during cultivation process.
