BTO – Some 84 young turtles have been detected on the June 7th evening from a nest of eggs on the beach of Bai Phu creek, Tam Thanh commune, Phu Quy island district. The Fisheries Resources Protection Station of Phu Quy district has immediately brought all the young turtles to the sea safely.

The activities play a significance in the conservation and protection of this species as the newly-hatched turtles are still fragile and may be lost direction if they are not released into the sea. After discovering the young turtles, members of the Phu Quy district's aquatic resources protection station moved them to the Bai Nho area - about 1 km away from the place of discovery to bring them back to the sea safely.

Such turtle belongs to the family of sea turtles. An adult turtle often weighs from 25 to 50 kg. This species is being protected by the law and is banned from trading and killing. It is known that at the beginning of this year, the Fisheries Resource Protection Station of Phu Quy district also discovered and brought a flock of 30 young turtles back to the sea safely.
