450 scholarships granted to disadvantaged students

BTO – A ceremony was solemnly held in the evening of August 25 to receive the funds and offer scholarships of the study encouragement campaign entiled “Tiep buoc cho em den truong” (Fostering students on their study paths), academic year 2017-2018.

The event, which is the 7th of its kind, was attended by Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Manh Hung, leaders of the provincial People’s Committee, representative leaders of departments, branches, agencies, as well as philanthropists, donators and hundreds of students in need of help.

As reported, the provincial steering committee of the fundraising campaign has raised totally 2,200 scholarships (worth VND 1 -5 million each) for poor students to pursue their study in 2017-2018 school year. At provincial level alone, 450 scholarships (including  ones valued at VND 3.5 million, and VND 4 million) were granted to beneficiaries.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung highlighted that education sector plays an important role in improving people’s cultural standards, training human resources and nurturing talents, contributing to building and developing the country. He emphasized that over the past years, authorities at all levels and departments have paid special attention to the education and training cause, therefore, the comprehensive quality of education has gradually enhanced and remarkably met the increasing development demands of the locality. However, Binh Thuan province still has more than 27,300 poor and near-poor households, so their children have halted their academic dreams to help families earn livings. According to statistics of school year 2016-2017, the drop-out rates in 3 educational levels have fallen 0.17% compared with that of the previous years, but the quantity is still high (1,274 students).The reality has been a concern among each departments, agencies and the whole society.

Mr. Hung asked the campaign’s provincial steering committee to keep on striving for better results to give support to more and more students with difficult circumstances so that they can pursue their study paths. He also called organizations, enterprises and collective and individual sponsors to continue contributing to the funds to help poor students complete their academic dreams.

At the event, 65/450 students were awarded scholarships (the remaining scholarships will be granted to students by districts/town/city at the beginning of the school year. The province’s leaders offered certificates of merit to units, enterprises with high donation to show deep gratitude to their support to the campaign.

As of August 25, there have been 205 agencies, enterprises, individuals donating to the funds “Tiep buoc cho em den truong 2017” with a total cash of VND 3.6 billion. In which, Binh Thuan Lottery Company contributed VND 700 million followed by Tan Viet Phat JSC (VND 500 million) and Right Rich International Co., Ltd. (VND 450 million).
