Death Anniversary of the Hung Kings and Hung Kings Festival 2016

BTO- There is a saying “Wherever you go, remember the death anniversary of the Hung Kings on the 10th day of the third lunar month”, that reminds generations of Vietnamese people of  showing deep gratitude towards the Hung Kings, the great founders of Vietnamese nation. Generations to generations, on the 10th day of the third lunar month every year, people from all parts of the country always make a pilgrimage to the ancestral land in the northern province of Phu Tho to offer incense and pay tribute to the Hung Kings. They also bring with them a variety of specific products of each locality to offer to the ancestors with full respect at one of the greatest festivals in Vietnam. On this special day, Vietnamese people, not only at home but also abroad, turn their souls and hearts towards Nghia Linh mountain, Viet Tri city-Phu Tho province , the sacred land where the Hung Kings established...

Before hallowed memory of the Hung Kings, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee of Phu Tho province Bui Minh Chau read an oration in praise of great contributions of the Great Father Lac Long Quan, Great Mother Au Co and 18 generations of the Hung dynasty; reported on achievements of the whole Party and whole people in the process of national innovation, integration and development. Senior leaders also laid wreaths and burned incense at Hung Vuong temple, a statue of Uncle Ho talking to great pioneers, and the temple of legendary founder Lac Long Quan.

Delegation of Binh Thuan province led by Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung-member of the Party Central Committee-Secretary of the provincial Party Committee cum chairman of the provincial People’s Council, along with Mr. Truong Quang Hai- vice chairman of the provincial People Council, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam-vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, and representative leaders of departments, agencies from Binh Thuan, offered the Hung Kings incense and oblations, including special products of the locality, as follows: dragon fruit,

fish-sauce, square and round glutinous rice cakes, com cake, re cake … the province’s leaders have vowed to succeed the tradition of fairy and dragon in founding the nation of the ancestors, make every effort to learn and train to improve capacity to undertake every task entrusted by the Party, the State and the people. They have promised to work hard and fulfill all targets of socioeconomic development of the province.

During the five-day festival at the  Hung Kings’ temple (from the 6th to the 10th day of the third lunar month or (April 12th – 16th), millions of Vietnamese people flocked to the ancestral land to worship the ancestors and show their deep gratitude to the Hung Kings. 

Earlier, Bien Xanh song and dance troupe from Binh Thuan provided an art program entitled “the legendary of the ancestral land” for the locals and visitors in Viet Tri city-Phu Tho province, featuring the history of founding the first nation of Vietnam. The viewers also enjoyed specific cultural features of Binh Thuan province, the home of 34 ethnic groups living together. The songs and dances imbued with traditional culture of the Cham, Raglay and K’Ho people, along with impressive images of flying sand hills have introduced visitors in Phu Tho province the diverse culture and tourism potentials of Binh Thuan, the land of “blue sea, white sand and yellow sunshine”

Apart from rituals, the festival also included many cultural and traditional sporting activities such as: xoan singing, banh day and Banh chung making contests.
