Over 2,500 athletes to run at Hanoi International Heritage Marathon

More than 2,500 athletes from nearly 50 countries and territories worldwide have registered to join the Hanoi International Heritage Marathon 2018 which will take place in the capital city on October 21, heard a press conference on October 16.

The marathon is the first of its kind running through the city’s most stunning roads, tourist attractions of Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword) Lake, Long Bien bridge and West Lake, together with other architectural works closely connected with the capital city’s development.

Athletes will compete in four categories, namely 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km run, and 5km run. 

Prizes worth 400 million VND (17,000 USD) will be awarded for the winners at the race.

According to Do Chi Nghia, Editor-In-Chief of the Dai bieu Nhan dan newspaper and head of the organising board, the event will help popularise the benefits of marathon to people from all walks of life, and nudge Hanoi’s heritages closer to international friends.-VNA
