Brocade knitting village of Cham people

Presently, there are still some  traditional knitting frames made  of Go, Trac wood (two kinds of precious wood) in  Phan Hoa’s Brocade Knitting Village, which were made hundreds of years. Cotton-wool grinding  racks, cotton-wool shooting arrow, thread-dragging tool are all very popular now. The cotton is picked and then dried. After that, use an arrow to shoot the cotton out into thin layers. Then, use a bamboo stick to curl it and hook it into the thread-dragging tool. To make the thread strong and durable, free from feather ruffle when knitting, we put it into the water. After that, spread and dry it and strike the tube. If you want it green, dye it with cajuput tree, red with Combretum  leaves, black from a tree that looks like a palm tree…

While knitting, workers hang thread upon the frame. Then sit in front of it while using the hand to pass the shuttle back and  forth and using a knitting knife to batter the thread to make it clatter, that sounds very ear pleasant. To put a design on it, a skilled worker can “catch the cotton” to produces  Cham’s heavily cultural designs. From four traditional designs like green, daisy yellow, white and black on red ground, workers can make handbags, wallets, towels, belts… suitable with consumers and  tourists’ tastes.
