More than 1,500 billion VND in favor of offshore fishing vessels

From 2010 to 2022, the provincial People’s Committee approved 1,056 fishing vessels registered to operate regularly in distant sea areas, providing support to fishermen with a total amount of 1,547.3 billion Vietnamese dong.

Specifically, in the period of 2018 - 2022, it was 989.5 billion VND, including support for fuel costs for round trips of 6,161 fishing boats/12,680 round trips/953.39 billion dong; support for the cost of buying hull insurance and crew accident insurance for 2,797 fishing boats operating in distant sea areas with a total support fund of 24.52 billion dong; support for buying crew accident insurance for 19,721 crew members with a total fund of 4.85 billion dong; support for buying 240 long-range HF communication devices integrated with satellite positioning equipment (GPS) installed on fishing vessels for fishermen with a total support fund of 6.72 billion dong and one shore station located at the Fisheries Sub-Department with an amount of 0.26 billion dong.

In the first phase of 2023, a total of 1,487 approved applications / total support fund of 103.89 billion dong, including support for fuel costs for round trips of 1,240 applications/102.34 billion dong; support for buying crew accident insurance is 247 applications/1.5 billion dong.

Many fishing vessels regularly operate in distant sea areas are supported according to Decision No.48.

The implementation of policies to support fishermen operating in distant sea areas according to Decision No. 48 of the Prime Minister has achieved many tangible results. This has motivated and encouraged fishermen to expand their activities to distant sea areas for seafood exploitation and services, increasing income, and contributing to the local economic and social development; enhancing the technical expertise, experience, and skills of fishermen in offshore fishing.

At the same time, it promotes fishermen to develop large-capacity fishing vessels, in line with the State’s orientation for seafood exploitation, reducing the pressure on nearshore exploitation, increasing the presence of fishing vessels and fishermen in distant sea areas. This helps to limit the situation of foreign fishing vessels illegally exploiting our waters, timely detecting and providing information to relevant authorities about the status of foreign fishing vessels encroaching on our waters, contributing significantly to affirming and protecting the sovereignty of our homeland’s seas and islands.
