Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien toured the construction of La Nga 3 reservoir |
According to reported of vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Tuan Phong, Binh Thuan currently has 48 operational irrigation reservoirs, with a total designed storage capacity of more than 330 millions cubic meters. However, 10 reservoirs have been degrading after many years of exploitation, potentially posing risks of deterioration and unsafely in rainy season. Moreover, the localities have gone five months without rain, leading to a drop of 30% of water-level in most of reservoirs compared with the average level of the previous years. Many small reservoirs have even run out of water, resulting in prolonged drought. Hence, Binh Thuan’s authorities have proposed petitions to the National Assembly and central government to invest in the construction of water reservoir La Nga 3 and upgrade of 10 deteriorated ones.
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that Binh Thuan has created the connection of irrigation construction network, reinforced the water channels, and implemented water-saving watering methods in order to use the water sources efficiently. However, Binh Thuan, which is situated in the driest part of the country, needs the support from NA in the construction of large irrigational reservoirs to ensure stable water sources for the socioeconomic development in the coming years.
In a speech concluding the meeting, NA Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien highly appreciated effective and close cooperation among functional bodies in Binh Thuan in the construction of water reservoirs and the management of water resources. He agreed with the local authority’s proposals of setting up the pre-feasibility study report for the project of water reservoir La Nga 3 and added it to the medium-term public investment plan, period 2021-2025, which is invested by Ministry of Planning and Investment. He also agreed with the investment in repair of 10 water reservoirs suffering from deterioration to contribute to ensuring enough water resources for Binh Thuan by 2025. At the same time, Mr. Hien asked the province’s departments and functional agencies to set up plans for water security, take advantage of capital sources for irrigation network connection in many localities. Moreover, the reservoir of Luy river is expected to be completed later of this year and give a supplementary water sources for watering crops and people’s daily activities in the northern region of Binh Thuan province. According to vice chairman Phung Quoc Hien, Binh Thuan province should have appropriate plans to develop agriculture, industry and tourism to promote the effectiveness of water sources.
Earlier, NA vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien made a fact-finding tour and presented gifts to workers at the construction field of Song Luy river’s water reservoir in Bac Binh district.
