The Law Committee is one of the National Assembly (NA)’s pillar units, responsible to the legislature and people for the soundness of the legislation and in the centre for law making activities, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has affirmed.
Speaking during a meeting in Hanoi on February 29 to celebrate the 70th Day of the NA’s Law Committee (March 4, 1946-2016), NA Chairman Hung praised achievements by the committee over the last 70 years, particularly in consciously upholding the legislation and promoting its central role in legal formulation to ensure the legal and practical nature of laws in serving people’s interests.
The leader urged the committee and its members to thoroughly grasp and strictly abide by the Party and the State’s policies and guidelines, as well as putting the interests of the nation and people above all else and being loyal to the Constitution in implementing their mandates.
The agency should facilitate legal formulation in parallel with strengthening supervision of the Constitution’s implementation, contributing to build a strong NA with sound functions operating for the benefit of people and the nation.
Since its establishment during the NA’s first tenure after the first elections in 1946, the NA Law Committee is a leading agency in assisting the NA in performing constitutional functions, and monitoring and deciding important issues of the country.
During its 70 years of development, the committee has served the legislature in building and the promulgating five Constitutions, 389 laws, 223 ordinances and a range of NA resolutions and decisions.
