Between June 4 and 8, PM Phuc made the “three in one” visit, including touring Japan, attending the 23rd International Conference on the Future of Asia, and participating in the Viet Nam Investment Promotion Conference with 50 various activities.

Official tour of Japan

PM Phuc met with Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko; held talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe; met with Chairman of the Japanese Communist Party Kazuo Ishii, President of the New Komeito Party Natsuo Yamaguchi, and President of the Democratic Party Murata Renho; and received leaders of some Japanese prefectures like Kanagawa, Aichi, Shiga, Osaka.

At talks, both PM Phuc and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe reached high consensus on major orientations and specific measures to push forward the extensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Japan in a more comprehensive, practical and effective manner.

PM Phuc affirmed that Viet Nam consistently considers Japan a top and long-term economic partner and attaches extreme importance to the strategic cooperation in economy with Japan.

Both sides were committed to collaboration in national defense-security, the United Nations peacekeeping mission as well as post-war recovery. They vowed to promote economic connectivity via extending links across investment, trade, official development assistance (ODA), high-tech agriculture and labor.

Host and guest were unanimous in promoting Japanese investments in Viet Nam via effectively launching the sixth stage of the Viet Nam-Japan Joint Initiative and strengthening public-private partnership. They asserted close cooperation to launch action plans of six sectors named in Viet Nam’s industrialization strategy within the Viet Nam-Japan cooperation framework until 2020 with a vision to 2030 and speed up the progress of major infrastructure projects such as the North-South Highway, Hoa Lac High-tech Park and urban railway.

After their talks, the two PMs witnessed the exchange of 14 signed documents between Vietnamese and Japanese ministries and agencies.  The documents include the diplomatic notes for the exchange of four official development assistance (ODA) projects worth roughly US$ 912 million.

Others are diplomatic notes for the exchange of three nonrefundable aid projects valued at US$ 26.6 million, covering the operation of reservoirs in case of emergencies and effective flood management through the inclusive natural disaster management information system; and the Human Resources Development Scholarship Program in 2017 and 2018.

International Conference on the Future of Asia

In his speech delivered at the opening ceremony on June 5 morning, PM Phuc said reality showed globalization is a trend, emphasizing the key role of Asia during the process, while pointing out major challenges. Vision will decide modes of thinking, while methods of action and cooperation among nations will help build a peaceful and prosperous Asia where dreams of every nation, big or small, developed or not, will be heard, Mr. Phuc stated. The PM also spoke highly of contributions made by Japan to socio-economic development and poverty reduction in many Asian countries, as well as to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Japan.

He told participants that in the time ahead Viet Nam will strive to create development opportunities through the strengthening of international integration and participation in global management structures, create a favorable environment to bring into full play the role of the private sector, balance economic growth policies and effective management of resources and increase the quality of human resources to meet requirements of the industrial revolution 4.0. The Government also attended and delivered speeches at the Viet Nam investment promotion conference, and a roundtable with Japanese businesses.

The official tour of PM Phuc was expected to open a new era in the bilateral ties and presented the positive role of Viet Nam in the region and its strong international integration in the new context./.
