Mr. Nguyen Minh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee received the hosting flag from Mr. Farouk Barki - President of the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB).
At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee of Binh Thuan Nguyen Minh received the hosting flag from the UMB President. This is a prestigious sports event in the field of Carom 3-Cushion Billiards.
Prior to this, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and the working delegation attended the World Cup 3-Cushion Carom final in Ho Chi Minh City at Nguyen Du Sports Hall.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Farouk Barki stated: “2024 will be an exciting year for Carom 3-Cushion Billiards, this time in Ho Chi Minh City and we will meet again in September 2024 with a more prestigious and professional tournament. We hope to see you again, Vietnamese and international players in the upcoming season in Phan Thiet City - Binh Thuan.”
To reach the final, player Tran Duc Minh continuously surprised everyone starting from defeating Tran Quyet Chien in the round of 16, then defeating Benkay Karakurt (ranked 25) in the quarter-finals and Kiraz Tolgahan (ranked 17) in the semi-finals to secure a spot in the final against Kim Jun Tae.
The Vietnamese national anthem echoed in Nguyen Du Sports Hall as Tran Duc Minh claimed the championship cup on the night of May 26.
The match was dramatic as Tran Duc Minh took a lead of 20 points over Kim Jun Tae, but Kim Jun Tae only needed two turns to score a total of 19 points and reverse the situation, leading the home player 46-45. Both players were neck and neck with each point, each turn, until Tran Duc Minh scored consecutive points to win 50-46. This is the second time in Vietnamese billiards carom history that a player has claimed the World Cup championship title after the renowned Tran Quyet Chien.

The decision of the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB) to award the hosting rights of the 2024 World Championship to Binh Thuan province is an opportunity for Vietnamese players to improve their rankings, especially for Tran Quyet Chien, who is aiming for the top spot in the UMB world rankings.
