At the event, 87 farmers were honored with the title “Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers 2017” and “Outstanding farmers during 30 years of reform” for their achievements in agricultural and rural development.Nguyen Trong Sang, born in 1963, a resident in Binh An commune, Bac Binh district is the only one farmer from Binh Thuan province had the honor to receive the title of “Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers 2017”.
This year also marked the 5 anniversary of the programme “Pride of Vietnamese farmers” (initiated by the Vietnam Farmers’ Union’s central Committee, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2013) in praise of typical farmers who have overcome difficulties to enrich themselves and made remarkable contributions to the community. Among 87 awarded farmers, there are 12 female farmers and 10 people from ethnic minorities areas.
Reportedly, 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers honored at the event were selected through 4 criteria: having excellent achievements in doing business and production of agricultural produce; being prominent in the new-style rural areas construction movement; having achievements in the movement of the whole people protect national security, national sovereignty; having initiatives, inventions that have been applied to agricultural production with high effectiveness.
