During the campaign, young lecturers and students carried out 25 component works, with the purpose of facilitating daily life of people of ethnic minority groups with a total cost of VND 124 million. Specifically,they built a rural road with security light in La Da commune; repainted walls and drawed murals on classrooms of La Da 1 primary school; donated bookcases; repaired houses for poor households; held medical check-ups and gave free medicine to the poor; repaired electric networks and household appliances; cleaned up roads to keep clean environment ; granted scholarships to poor studious students; opened an English class and other courses for local students to review their knowledge; held summer activities for children… In addition, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union members from Binh Thuan Vocational College also plated many green trees in the three localities; gave instructrions to local residents how to classify garbage. They also got plastic garbage from local people in return of reusable plastic shopping bags, with the aim to raise people’s awareness of living a green life for environment protection.
According to Mr. Doan Khac Vuong- Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Branch of Binh Thuan Vocational College, the green summer volunteer campaign has been considered as a meaningful activities of youth union members to promote their spirit of being in the vanguard of supporting poverty reduction program to boost economic development in mountainous areas. This campaign also encouraged young generations to strive for better dedication and maturity.
