Despite the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam has been honoured as "Asia’s Leading Destination" and "Asia’s Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination" at the 2021 World Travel Awards (WTA).

In attaining these titles, Vietnam has surpassed many strong candidates such as China, India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

These awards are both a source of encouragement for tourism workers in a year full of difficulties and challenges, as well as a very good opportunity for Vietnam to become a centre of attraction for international tourists once the disease is under control.

This year, the WTA named Hoi An as Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination, Ha Long Bay as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction, and Cuc Phuong National Park as Asia’s Leading National Park.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism was honoured as Asia’s Leading Tourist Board in 2021.

Vietnam Airlines won the award for Asia’s Leading Airline for Economic Class, while Vietravel was awarded the title of Asia’s Leading Tour Operator in 2021.

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort and Sun World Ba Na Hills in Da Nang, Avana Retreat in Hoa Binh, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay in Phu Quoc, Muong Thanh Luxury Hotel in Nha Trang, and Hotel de la Coupole - MGallery in Lao Cai all won awards in the hotel and resort category.

“Our winners represent the very best of Asia and Oceania’s travel and hospitality sectors and my congratulations to each of them. They are all playing starring roles in spearheading the recovery of travel and tourism,” says Graham Cooke, World Travel Awards founder.

World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. The World Travel Awards brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.
