BTO – Among the province’s growing martial arts, it can be said that Taekwondo and young talents have greatly contributed to affirm the “brandname” for Binh Thuan in both national and international arenas.
20 years ago, the Binh Thuan Department of Sports at the time timely directed its professional division to form Taekwondo Association after the Government allowed martial arts movement to reactivate. The association’s birth has really contributed to the province’s orientation for development, bringing the professional activities of Taekwondo to be on the right track.
Around in the middle of 2015, the Department of Sports of Binh Thuan decided to establish an additional subsidiary of Taekwondo on Tanh Linh district and assigned Coach Nguyen Quoc Hung as head trainer. The establishment of the new subsidiary is noted as a new shift to spur the development of this type of martial arts. Soon, Binh Thuan’s Taekwondo marked its first success by the best women’s team at the national young taekwondo championship in 2007 with 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 7 bronze medals…
Since the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism was merged in 2009, the sport leaders still determined the spearhead role of Taekwondo in the local sporting subjects that needs to be invested in focus. The cutting-edge of Binh Thuan Taekwondo continues to be shown by reinforcing two local athletes to the Vietnam’s antagonistic Taekwondo team. The next strength of local sporting movement was confirmed again by the outstanding performance of athlete Nguyen Thi Le Kim at the international Taekwondo championship of Uzbekistan in 2010.
After such impressive achievements, Binh Thuan’s Taekwondo feels confident of integrating and getting ready to contribute its forces for the national selection team to take part in international competitions at all levels. From 2011 up to now alone, the province’s Taekwondo has a part in bringing the locality dozens of medals at all kinds, including 14 golds at the arenas of SEA Games, the Southeast Asia, the Asia and the world
In Binh Thuan, there currently have 11 clubs and 75 spots with nearly 6,000 students of martial arts practicing Taekwondo regularly. For high-achievement sports, Taekwondo is also a discipline with many teams for different ages according to the training curriculum for athletes at grassroots’ level. With such relatively basic training system plus the attention and determination of local young talents, coach Nguyen Quoc Hung thought that Binh Thuan’s Taekwondo would be further shining in the future.
