Taekwondo fighters strike gold at French Open

Taekwondo fighters from Vietnam struck gold fine tuning their axe kicks and hammer fists at a French open competition that took place January-14-16 in the city of Lille, France.

Among the stars of the show were Nguyen Thien Phung and Ngo Thi Thuy Dung who collected a cumulative total of seven medals, including four gold, at the tourney that attracted 531 athletes from 33 countries around the globe.

In the men’s freestyle event, Thien Phung won gold while Thuy Dung earned a bronze medal in the women’s freestyle event. The duo also finished in first place in the mixed double’s category.

The fighters are now looking forward to a busy few weeks in training as they gear up for one of the biggest events in the sport this March in the form of the Southeast Asian Championships.

Other upcoming tourneys in 2017 include the World Taekwondo Beach Championships in May, and Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship in June as well as the SEA Games and ASIAN Games.
