The event had the participation of about 50 cadres from the department of Agriculture and Rural Development, more than 100 employees of Syngenta Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City branch, as well as 100 students and youth from Binh Thuan Community College. They voluntarily joined many practical activities to keep a clean and safe environment. In particular, they helped local farmers pick up pesticides containers that were discharged on their fields. Over 1,000 farmers actively responded to this campaign by cleaning their fields, collecting discharged containers of chemical fertilizers and plant protection products, and taking part in training courses on raising awareness of using plant protection products effectively and safety.
After two days (October 17 &18), youth and volunteers collected as many as 2tons of discharged pesticide containers in the 5 communes of Ham Chinh, Ham Phu, Ham Liem (Ham Thuan Bac district), Muong Man and HamThanh (Ham Thuan Nam district). They also collected signatures of 500 farmers who have pledged to join hands for a green and safe environment.
This meaningful campaign has been launched by Syngenta Vietnam since 2015 with the purpose of raising public awareness of the community, especially farmers about environmental protection by not throwing containers, packing of chemical fertilizers and pesticides into the environment. They should take all disposals of plant protection products to a safe places to destroy them.
