Meeting in respond to World Environment Day

BTO – As many as 700 cadres, youth union members and students across Binh Thuan province has flocked to Tan Nghia townlet, Ham Tan district to participate in a meeting in respond to World environment Day (June 5th), World Ocean Day (June 8th) andthe National Sea and Island Week 2019 (from June 1st -8th).

This year’s World Environment Day, with the theme of “Air Pollution and Our Actions” aims at raising public awareness of the influence of air pollution on people’s health; such air pollution comes from human actions such as daily activities, industrial production, transportation, etc.

World Environment Day 2019, with the theme "Air pollution and our actions", World Ocean Day and Vietnam Sea and Island Week with the theme "Gender and Ocean". Air pollution directly affects human health and also people, from daily activities, in industrial production, transportation, is the main cause of air pollution.

Air pollution is gradually becoming more serious all over the world and in Vietnam. The struggle against air pollution is responded and wide spread in many cities/ provinces. A focus will be paid on deploying the anti-plastic waste movement with the active implementation of specific programs on classification, collection, transportation and treatment of urban and rural solid waste and plastic waste along the coast and on islands.

Addressing the meeting, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s committee Le Tuan Phong called upon authorities, organizations, and individuals to join hands to protect the environment, collect and dispose of waste, and encourage the use of public transport to minimize sources of air pollution, as well as changing the public habits of using single-use plastic bags, contributing to protecting people’s health.

At the ceremony, leader of Ham Tan district People’s committee distributed eco-friendly bags to people, plant trees along the area of the Cultural Center and paraded along some streets to propaganda.
