Valuable and rare tortoise found dead on Mui Ne beach

BTO – Fishermen in Mui Ne, Phan Thiet has completed all funeral disposition for a very rare and valuable tortoise, known as Tortoise Lady, at An Binh temple in accordance with the coastal custom.

Earlier on October 2nd morning, a fisher in Mui Ne found the 3-meter-long carcass tortoise, weighing about 6 quintals, when he was fishing in the nearby water. This is a largest and rare marine turtle in high danger of extinction.

Under the international Code, all acts of catching and killing the tortoises is illegal. Unlike other sea turtle, tortoises have no turtle-shell, but they are covered with smooth skin and meat.

For the fishermen, this tortoise species are very sacred and will bring luckiness and seaworthiness to fishermen when go out to sea.

Previously, many cases of live Tortoises in the waters of Nghe An , Quang Binh, etc. have been safely released by the local residents, according to the authorities also recorded
