For that reason, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked competent ministries, such as: Health, Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Rural Development to set up an inter-sector inspection team to conduct aninvestigation on the issue. On October 22,Ministry of Health announced that 100 percent of fish sauce samples (both industrially and traditionally made products) collected in 5 provinces and city with the highest output of fish sauce (including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan provinces) contained safe levels of organic arsenic.
In Binh Thuan, functional departments, after carrying out surveys in fish sauce samples taken from fish sauce manufacturing facilities in the province, concluded that the arsenic levels in most of productsare within the safe range ruled by Ministry of Health. Local fish sauce producers follow the formula: fish + salt + sugar = fish sauce. However, under the direction of the National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), Binh Thuan provincial Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Branch Office has conducted sudden inspections to fish sauce production facilities with well-known brand names as: Hai Thanh, Hai Thang, Ba Hai, Di Muoi Tiep, Tuan etc…Test results issued by Binh Thuan’s Branch Office for Standards, Metrology and Quality on October 24 showed that no additive, chemicals that are prohibited or not enlisted in permitted substances was detected. Especially, all producers have provided consumers with fish sauce products with nitrogen degrees as they declared on products’ packings to maintain their reputation and customers’ confidence.
Phan Thiet traditionally produced fish sauce has built up its greatrenown domestically and internationally for years. Binh Thuan provincial Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Branch Office has developed a string of fish sauce manufacturing under food safety and hygiene regulations. So consumers feel assured of using Phan Thiet fish sauce!
