The islanders’ monthly demand for commodities is estimated at 300 tons of rice, 5 tons of sugar, 3,000 liters of cooking oil, 3,000 boxes of instant noodles. At the year-end, transportation of necessary goods faced difficulties when seasonal wind blows up, especially during Tet occasion. For that reason, local authorities and people have taken the initiative in stockpiling essential goods and transport means to serve the residents during Tet holidays and in bad weather, with 5 major commodity groups (rice, sugar, cooking oil, salt, instant noodles). Petroleum stockpiles are available at filling stations, oil tankers and Phu Quy military command. Medicine and medical materials are stored at the district’s military-civil hospital.
The provincial People’s Committee has set up plans to stockpile essential goods and boats to serve Phu Quy people’s demand in Lunar New Year’s days and in bad weather. Relevant units and business have been assigned to ensure enough commodity supply with reasonable prices, good quality, food and hygiene safety. The costs for stockpiling Tet goods are financed by preferential loans from the Bank for Agriculture and Rural development. The provincial government also asked functional bodies to prepare ships for maritime transport (passengers and cargo) on Phu Quy-Phan Thiet sea route and return.
