In 2018, domestic hospitals provided checkups, treatment, and first aid for about 300,000 foreigners. They were mainly overseas Vietnamese and people from the neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia, as well as foreigners living and working in Vietnam.

The most requested medical services include dentistry, cardiovascular interventions, cancer treatment, and cosmetic surgery, among others.

The Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital in 2018 provided medical checkups for more than 660 foreigners and treatment for about 1,220 inpatients.

Meanwhile, the Military Central Hospital 108 also received a growing number of patients from Russia, the US, the Republic of Korea (RoK), and China throughout the year.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that many foreign patients opt for medical services in Vietnam thanks to the affordable treatment and high quality of skilled doctors with a high success rate compared to those in other countries.

In particular, the Vietnam-Germany Hospital in Hanoi recently saved a Japanese tourist, aged 67, who suffered from type A aortic dissection.

The Military Central Hospital 108 had also successfully rescued a 40-year-old patient from the RoK with subarachnoid haemorrhage due to aortic aneurysm.

In addition, the National K (Cancer) Hospital performed a complex surgery to remove a large tumour for a Japanese living in Vietnam.
