BTO - Located on Bai Nai hill 105 meters above sea level (Phu hai ward, Phan Thiet city) and 7 km far away from the center of Phan Thiet City,  Lau Ong Hoang relic is among popular historical monuments in the coastal city.

This place was built as a villa in 1911 by a French aristocrat and largely known as the most modern architectural work in Binh Thuan at that time, so it was given the name “Lau Ong Hoang” by indigenous people. In addition, Lau Ong Hoang has been famous in Vietnam because it was a dating place where Han Mac Tu poet found his inspiration for poems and contemplated the moon with his lover Mong Cam.

In 1945, the French colonials returned to Vietnam and built a military post surrounding Lau Ong Hoang to watch the entire Phan Thiet. Since then, the site became a fierce battlefield, and Lau Ong Hoang has no longer existed because the villa was destroyed during the war, leaving only some vestiges. Hence, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism lately emphasized the necessity of investing in building “Lau Ong Hoang cultural tourism site”, with the aim to restoring the ruins of Lau Ong Hoang relic and the famous love story of Han Mac Tu-Mong Cam, creating an additional popular destination for domestic and international visitors. For that reason, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently promoted a suggestion on project building “Lau Ong Hoang cultural tourism site” to seek approval from authorized departments. The project, which has a total investment capital of VND 10 billion, is expected to be implemented within 3 years (2021-2023) on a land area of 4.4 hectares in the area of Bai Nai hill, currently under the management of the provincial Military High Command. Under the direction of the provincial People’s Committee, functional agencies are working to hand over this land area to the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism for the project’s implementation.
