At the opening ceremony, hundreds of artists and dancers brought a colourful arts programme to the stage highlighting the unique features and indigenous culture of Dak Lak province and Buon Ma Thuot city.
Addressing the event, Deputy PM Binh highlighted the strong advantages of Dak Lak and Buon Ma Thuot in particular, which is dubbed as “the coffee capital” of Vietnam.
He called on the local authorities of Dak Lak and other coffee-growing provinces to review the current situation of their coffee growing in order to meet the current trend of the world’s market, ensure sustainable production, and increase the value of Vietnamese coffee.
He also requested Dak Lak province to seek ways to expand the market for its coffee products, and strengthen connections with international experts, coffee producers and manufacturers so as to establish Dak Lak as the destination of the world’s coffee.
Running through March 16, the festival includes a hive of activities, including the 2019 Dak Lak investment promotion conference, an exhibition on coffee, a seminar on the development of specialty Vietnamese coffee, a photo and coffee history exhibition, a street parade, a contest for farmers, a Buon Don elephant festival, and a culinary competition.
